Get started now on a brighter tomorrow

The CCLC offers a variety of opportunities for adults who want to improve their literacy skills in order to get ahead in life or on the job. Classes are available at no cost to Chatham County residents.

Adult Basic Education

Adults who cannot read, write or do math well enough to reach their goals enroll in our Adult Basic Education (ABE) program. Some of our students are striving to get a job or a promotion. Some are working toward a general education diploma (GED) so that they can go on to college. Others simply want to help their children with homework, be able to read a prescription or do everyday tasks more effectively. Whatever the student hopes to achieve, we can help.

One-on-one tutoring sessions are available at sites across Chatham County. For more details or to request an assessment, go to our Student FAQ page.

English as a Second Language

Those who speak a language other than English can learn to maneuver more successfully through daily life by participating in our English as a Second Language (ESL) program. Students learn to understand, read, write and speak English in a comfortable, small-group setting or in one-on-one tutoring sessions. Our ESL program also includes classes for U.S. citizenship.

We currently offer small-group ESL classes in Siler City and at the Nature Trail community center in North Chatham County. One-on-one ESL tutoring is available at sites throughout the county. For more details or to request an assessment, see our Schedule and Student FAQ pages.
